The Indian National Yowan was founded in 1996 in Kotdwara in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India by Dr. Devanand Balodhi. The motivation of founding Yowan was to spread awareness about AIDS and HIV in the rural parts of India and to encourage people to practice safe sex. Also Yowan wants to develop rural India so the country can have uniform growth. And the environment can be protected from pollution caused by clusters of development and industrialization.

Yowan's aim is to spread awareness about AIDS and to advocate environmental protection and rural development. Equitable and inclusive growth is the only way to achieve sustainable development and to protect the environment. Yowan believes through rural area development the exodus of people to urban areas can be stopped or slowed.

MISSION

The mission of the Indian National Yowan is in two parts:

The first is to provide education about HIV and AIDS to help prevention of the deadly disease in rural part of India, as well as to provide support for patients who suffer from HIV and AIDS.

The second is to promote rural development, decreasing the migration of population from rural areas to urban areas and training and educating farmers in the ways of new agricultural technologies and promoting bio and green fuels and products.

We have two flagship programs Hariyali Ganga (हरियाली गंगा)  and Trust us (भरोसा)

Hariyali Ganga (हरियाली गंगा)

In Yowan's flagship program, “Hariyali Ganga,” Yowan interacted with more than 300,000 farmers in 359 farmer-training camps in 19 states across India. In these camps, farmers were trained to use better farming techniques and credit opportunities.

Trust us (भरोसा)

Yowan has also been instrumental in spreading awareness about AIDS across the rural population of India which includes many illiterate people in a culture where the type of subject matter surrounding the topic of AIDS is relatively taboo. Yowan volunteers from each local area work with people of their same age group, sex, and economic status in order to allow the people to relate to and accept the help Yowan is giving.
